There is a rapid increase in the California housing market - of realtors. The number of licensed real estate brokers and agents increased by over 119,000 between 200 and 2005 according to the California Department of Real Estate. The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports that the Santa Cruz Association of Realtors has 1,473 members, with only 2,820 homes sold in that area last year. The increased competition amongst realtors is creating a new twist in an already hectic time for the housing market in California.
Will the thought of not making a single sale for the year drive agents to play unfairly? When someone's livelihood is on the line, it will be interesting to see how far these agents will go to get business and how this will affect the market. This could pose beneficial to buyers and sellers if agents are willing to cut their commission just to get a piece of the sale. But how low can these agents go and still survive? Hope they have a stable second job...

Th standard of real estate licensing should be toughened to protect the realtors and their job. The quality of the profession should be upheld and it is the government's responsibility to make sure that these professionals are getting enough for their livelihood. There is an increase number of realtors while the number of homes sold is so low. The profession is getting killed.
